Mystery: Join the Thursday Photo Challenge!

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos! Oh, wow, I can’t believe this challenge marks six months of Thursday Photo Challenge! Time flies when you’re having fun.

This week’s challenge is a mystery.

Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man’s desire to understand.

Neil Armstrong

What photos can you take to depict a mystery? My photo comes from Angkor Wat, Cambodia. There are few explanations for anything at the huge site as you walk around. It’s all a mystery. You can learn more about Angkor Wat at the museum in Siem Reap, though.

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.
  3. Comment on this post with a link to your page so others can see your contribution.
  4. That’s it! Super easy.

This challenge will stay open for one week, then next Thursday, I will post the next challenge!

Spot: Join the Thursday Photo Challenge

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s challenge is spot.

Within your heart, keep one still, secret spot where dreams may go.

Louise Driscoll

Do you have a favorite spot? A spot where you love to hang out? A spot where you enjoy walking? A spot of tea? Spot the Dog? Do you love spotting birds? Or you could take this literally and show me a spotty dog (Edinburgh slang for a dalmatian) or spotty wallpaper. Let’s be dotty about spots, this week!

My photo is of the sunset on Christmas Eve 2017 in Pattaya beach, Thailand. It was a great spot to just let go and have a quiet holiday at a point when my husband and I were living in China and working very long hours.

What can you come up with?

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.

Towering: Thursday Photo Challenge

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos! Anyone can join in with any type of camera.

This week’s challenge is towering.

I ought to be jealous of the tower. She is more famous than I am.

Gustave Eiffel

What way will you interpret this challenge? A photo of something tall, perhaps, or of a person who is a tower of strength? Everything is relative, of course, so perhaps you might want to take this in another direction and find something really small that lives in a world of towering giants?

My photo is of some huge palm trees towering over a waterfall and a flower in Palm Springs, California, on a cloudy winter’s day.

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.

Childlike: Join the Thursday Photo Challenge

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s challenge is childlike.

There are no seven wonders in the eyes of a child. There are seven million.

Walt Streightiff

The subject could be a child or you could attempt to take a photo through the eyes of a child. It’s notoriously difficult for adults to see the point of view of children, so this challenge might push some people out of their comfort zone.

My photo is the excitement of going on a plane as a child and seeing the world from above. That sense that you could live amongst the clouds and build snowmen out of them. The rollercoaster thrill of taking off and the uncertainty about how the plane will ever touch land safely again. I never went on a plane as a child, so the first time I experienced the awe and wonder of air travel was when I was eighteen.

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.

Construct: Thursday Photo Challenge

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge (FPC), a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s theme is construct. You could interpret it as construction (to construct), constructive, or get all metaphysical with “time is a construct” or similar. It’s entirely down to you how you interpret the challenge!

My photo is of construction in Dubai, because I found it fascinating to watch people create huge structures in the desert.

It’s often said that pregnant women dream of skyscrapers being built and that it’s their subconscious telling them they are making new life. I never had any dreams like that. Maybe my body knew I was extremely aware of how pregnant I was. Have you had any dreams like that? It sounds really interesting.

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.

Texture: Join the Thursday Photo Challenge!

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s challenge is texture.

Texture and pattern should function as a surprise.

Robert Denning

My photo is from Istanbul, where the texture of this scene fascinated me. It wasn’t just the water, although that’s intriguing by itself since it’s very obviously standing water, but the surface is choppy like tidal water.

The texture of the stone around the water, and the white egg-like structures in the centre of the feature were also fascinating, and the whole thing contrasts with the trees in the background.

Reflecting on this photo, I wish I had taken it with a higher ISO and faster shutter speed to really get more light and movement into the image. But that would have meant using my Canon Eos instead of my iPhone, which is what this was actually taken with. :0

What can you come up with for this challenge?

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.

Senses: Join the Thursday Photo Challenge!

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos! There are lots of other great photo challenges out there, but this one is the Thursdayest of all the photo challenges.

This week’s topic is senses.

All our knowledge begins with the senses.

Immanuel Kant

In biology, it’s generally agreed we have five sense. But what about all those other things we call senses? A sense of dread before an exam? A sense of excitement? Common sense? There are so many ways this challenge can be interpreted and I hope you have fun coming up with something!

My photo is from the Candylicious store in Dubai Mall, Dubai, UAE. The sense? Sense of wonder! But if it had to be a scientific sense, sense of taste since it’s a tree made of candy.

Gold: Thursday Photo Challenge

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s challenge is gold.

The Earth turns to gold in the hands of the wise.

Rumi

Of course, you have the option of photographing literal gold, and making this an exercise in colours, but you could also look at gold as a metaphor for something valuable to you or to someone else.

My photo is from Dubai, where the sun was setting behind the Burj Khalifa, throwing it into silhouette, and a dancing water fountain was spraying cool liquid into a pool. There is a lot of gold in Dubai (not as much as in Abu Dhabi), but the really rich people have expensive water features like this one. In the blazing desert sun, water is more valuable than gold.

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.

Dynamic: Thursday Photo Challenge

Welcome! Come and join the Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s challenge is dynamic.

Attitude is dynamic,

whereas character is static.

Suriyah Dhinakaran

Dynamic is a word for movement, growth, change, energy…

It is perhaps best understood by its opposite word: Static.

So this week’s challenge asks you to find an image that represents or depicts the word dynamic. What can you come up with?

My photo is from Xi’an, China, where a man carrying a huge bag walked across the crossing while cars and buses zoomed past. In case you’re wondering, he did make it to the other side safely.

Delicious: Thursday Photo Challenge!

Welcome to the weekly Thursday Photo Challenge, a weekly photography challenge for everyone who likes to take photos!

This week’s challenge is delicious.

You can go anywhere in the world, and people’s faces light up when they put delicious food in their mouths.

Sandi Toksvig

My photo is from one of my extended trips to America. You may instantly recognise my picture as the syrup jugs from iHOP (international house of pancakes?), the most delicious place to get pancakes I’ve ever been to. I was alone in America and I wished I had someone to share the love of iHOP with.

Looking at that picture makes me wistful. Also hungry. Food is the best part of any travel adventure, I always think.

What can you come up with on the theme of delicious?

Here’s how to take part:

  1. Take a photo or search your files for one that represents the week’s theme.
  2. Write a post, including your photo, any words of explanation or inspiration you wish to share, and a link to this challenge page.
